In this middle school mystery, a young boy named Travis is on a mission to save the John Steinbeck Public Library. While steeped in the work of Steinbeck, he connects with a local author/Steinbeck authority and begins to see Steinbeck’s stories and characters mysteriously come to life. This book is a great choice for kids who are already avid readers—they will be able to identify with the feeling of an author or book beginning to influence the way we perceive the world around us. This might also be a perfect introduction to some of the shorter novels of Steinbeck.
